During the last several years, golf on the Internet has come along way with various technical upgrades, crisp connections and great content from around the world. It's a new era in sports broadcasting.
They aren't just your average radio programs - it's 'audio on demand', meaning that whatever time you tune in, you can listen to the latest broadcast or those you missed. With the current free Windows Media Player, listeners can be turned on in minutes. Once you turn a show on, you are free to surf the net, send emails or do any other online activity - while enjoying a program.
If you run across some other high-quality golf radio shows let me know - here are a few of the best for my money. Check back regularly for new additions.
CANADA
From the SCOREGolf conglomerate, the SCORE Golf Show is a 90-second, radio program syndicated in more than 70 markets in Canada. Hosted by SCORE Golf Magazine Bob Weeks, the program offers instruction in the game's best players and the latest coast to coast. During the golf season, the show is heard on a number of Saskatchewan radio stations if you happen to catch it. If not, year-round the website archives many of the shows which focus on golf tips and the PGA Tour.
SCORE Golf Show at http://www.scoregolf.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=radio is a polished production - heavy on commercials - with unfortunately little or no Canadian content.
UNITED STATES
The Golf Guys broadcasts from coast to coast and around the world, The Golf Guys' Radio Show is heard every Saturday on over 800 radio stations in 186 countries.
From their studios in Monterey, California, overlooking the ocean courses of Pebble Beach and Cypress Point, The Golf Guys deliver a fast paced, humorous blend of golf news and commentary. With live broadcasts from major tournaments and events around the world they bring the average golfer an inside view no other show can deliver.
Tune into http://www.cypressgolf.com/listen.htm for an informative one-hour show with Don Moschetti, Lee Wilcox and Greg Hildebrand. They're casual, insightful and fun.
AUSTRALIA
Highlighting the Aussies who take on the golf world, TalkinGolf is a one-hour, magazine style program with Rod Morri that 'airs' each Wednesday at 5pm AEST with Rod Morri.
The first segment of the show is devoted to reviewing and previewing professional golf events from around the world while the remainder is made up of interviews and feature stories from every facet of the game - women's golf, junior golf, professional golf, amateur golf, golf business, golf history and much more. One show I caught had some Canadian content with featured record cuts from The Golf Album and balladeer Brandon Ayre of Victoria, B.C.
In sum, www.talkingolf.com has a good take on the Australian and world golf scene while offering high production value and technical clarity.
